I’ve decided to stop kidding myself, and start actually deciding to use this blog for something important rather than go “Oh I have a blog let’s post random shit and go on hiatuses for 2 years yay”.
Anyway, I’m going to be starting up a GM:Studio progress thing, that will follow my progress as I build a game with it.
What is GM:Studio?
Game Maker Studio is a game creation program that is really easy. You can build games without programming skills. Yes. So throw away that old C++ book that you got from your grandma or your programming job.
GM:S uses a drag and drop interface, so you just drag actions from one panel to another…
…but it also has a language, in case the built-in actions aren’t enough.
I think the first game I’m going to be working on is “Pokemon and the Crystal of Fifty Years“. I started this game in Game Maker 8, and an impromptu birthday present forced me to GM:S, and one of the first things I noticed was that the import process from GM8 to GM:S was…to say the least…derpy. It duplicated sprites, screwed up the compile process for some code, and just made things harder. Once I cleaned it up, I noticed something else:
I can’t use MIDI files anymore.
Yes, yes, yes, stop yelling. I know no one uses MIDI anymore. It was just a thing I did to keep the size down because all my MP3 and wav files seemed to be about 40MB each.
And the funny thing is…GM:S dosen’t even tell me that MIDI files aren’t allowed. Well, actually it does, but…it does a horrible, horrible job:
And you can shut up about my awful custom windows anytime. Windows 7 allows me to do it and I DID. SO THERE.
I’m sure it’ll get resolved though. GM:S is still being maintained.
Anyway, check out my blog periodically for progress on this game! See ya! Soon, hopefully.
